Celebrate an afternoon with Queen of the Dance Dinkie Flowers (stage name Dinkie Stapleton), she was an International Ice skater appearing in “Puss in Boots on Ice” in 1952, Tom Arnold’s “Ice Revue” in 1954 and other ice shows including Dick Whittington. In 1974 Dinkie choreographed the World Premier of a new opera by astronomer Patrick Moore entitled “Perseus and Andromeda” at the Shoreham Community Centre and went on to choreograph many shows for the Shoreham Light Opera Company. She set up her own “Dinkie Flowers Stage School” in Shoreham and has for the last 50 years taught dance at the Shoreham Community Centre, which she continues to the present day. Children of all ages were always welcome and she staged shows at the Shoreham Community Centre and in local rest homes, to bring a little sunshine into people’s lives. We would like to make this afternoon a reunion of Dinkie’s students and friends, to help her celebrate her birthday and the contribution that she has made to our community. It will be a great opportunity to come along and see a display of memorabilia, programs and photographs of just some of the shows that she has put on, and for old friends to meet up again with Dinkie and other members of the casts of her shows. Live entertainment from pupils of Dinkie’s Stage School. The Tickets at £7 per Adult and £3.50 per Child (Under 10) include a delicious Cream Tea and we will be holding a bumper raffle. The profits for the raffle and tickets will be donated to the Chestnut Tree Children's Hospice. Tickets available from the Shoreham Centre, by calling Lesley Tomlinson on 07966 394986 or clicking the link on the Event page below.
